Description
Amp top MOSFET boost with gain control that pushes an Electra with switchable clipping—germanium for vintage compressed fuzzy distortion, silicon for modern crunch or off for a beautiful clean boost.
The lads @hellosailoreffectsofficial @john.mulholland.777 @daverage @jsa_effect_pedals (Instagram/Youtube) put out a build challenge to make something out of something old, so I ripped parts out of this piece of ham radio gear and managed to make an absolutely stellar boost/overdrive.
I reused the cool case, two classy knobs, a rad rotary switch, a MOSFET that was meant for VHF amplification but it still worked great for this, a nice low gain NPN transistor that measured 76 hfe, a sexy old 50mfd Mallory electrolytic capacitor and some cool looking carbon comp resistors.
You can leave it on or use the true bypass switch in the back. Works really nice for clean boost or pretty heavy overdrive, and cleans up great with the guitar volume. Hand painted and glow in the dark!
